We are proud to support the PTSD + ME initiative, led by Troy Rienstra, Executive Director of CODA (Coalition to Oppose Domestic Abuse), as he launches a Trauma Questionnaire focused on understanding the effects of trauma in the lives of justice-impacted individuals.
This project seeks to gather information from people who have been affected by incarceration, not just during their time in the system, but also the trauma they may have experienced before prison and what they continue to carry after reentry. Trauma doesn’t begin or end with incarceration. It rewires how we think, how we cope, how we trust, and how we move through everyday life.
CODA has been researching to build a Trauma & Incarceration Report that will explore how trauma shapes decision-making, emotional regulation, and personal relationships, especially in individuals experiencing compound or layered trauma. The goal of this work is not only to raise awareness but to equip communities, service providers, and employers with the insight needed to enhance reentry support systems and create pathways for healing and transformation.
Ultimately, we want individuals impacted by the justice system to understand how trauma has shaped their worldview and how, through awareness and care, they can begin healing themselves, leading to a more productive and peaceful life after incarceration.
If the justice system has impacted you or someone you know, we invite you to participate in this anonymous survey and help shape a more compassionate and trauma-informed future.
